1.  The fill holes are located on the top of the cartridge and are sealed with small plastic plugs. These must be removed by pushing them into the cartridge using a pointed instrument.

2.  Hold the cartridge with the label facing you.  Insert the needle into the fill hole of the color to be refilled (see diagram above) and push downwards into the center of the cartridge.

3.  While watching the print heads slowly inject up to 10 ml. of  the correct color ink into the cartridge.  At the first sign of ink coming out of the print head stop filling that color and draw back on the syringe plunger approximately 1/8 inch. Do not reseal the filling holes if you do the cartridge will not work properly.

Important: Do not inject the last ml if it is air bubbles, rinse the syringe with water, before filling with another color.

The C6578D cartridge has a serial number on the electronic contacts. The printer will read the number and count the number of ink droplets that come out. When the counter reaches a predetermined number (it does not matter which color gets to that number first) the low ink light will come on. Colors are not used at the same rates. You may have more of one color than another still in the cartridge. This is why you need to watch the printhead while you are filling the cartridge for the first sign of ink on the particular color you are filling. After you have refilled the cartridge this light will continue to be on. This is because the printer still thinks that the cartridge is empty. The cartridge will still work even with the light on.
